Eritrean Lunch and Coffee Ceremony
Date: 03/09/2011
Start Time: 12 noon
End Time: 3:30 pm
Price: $45
We are truly honoured to invite you to join us on this very
special experience. We are being welcomed into the home of an
Eritrean African family to learn about their food and
culture.
When we arrive we will be introduced to the extended family
members. Then we will eat a traditional meal, which will
include several vegetable and bean dishes and a beef dish.
This will be served on the engera flatbread, so we will all try the
traditional method of eating with our fingers!
After lunch we will relax and watch the coffee ceremony:
washing of green coffee beans, drying and roasting, grinding of the
beans, then brewing of the coffee on a charcoal brazier.
Incense is often burned during the ceremony.
We will enjoy several small cups of the delicious smooth coffee
while we visit with our hosts. The coffee is traditionally
accompanied by popcorn and homebaked bread.
Our visit will conclude mid-late afternoon. We last offered
this event two years ago and had a wonderful time. We know
that you will have a truly memorable experience!
Please note: we will meet at the home in West Auckland so
own transport is required.
