Zealong Tea Estate Tour and High Tea, Saturday, 9 March

Zealong Tea Estate Tour and High Tea

Saturday, 9 March

Visit New Zealand’s only commercial tea estate on a day trip to the Waikato with Finding Flavour.

Widely regarded as a Waikato icon, Zealong Tea Estate produces 100% organic award-winning tea.

Background:

In 1996, a flowering camellia in the Waikato inspired Vincent Chen: Tea is a kind of camellia… maybe tea could grow here too. A dream was born. Starting with only 130 tea cuttings, Vincent learned the art of tea in New Zealand’s unique and pure environment.

Today, over 1.2 million tea plants thrive in the estate.

Our Day at Zealong:
We leave Auckland early at 7:15am so that we can join the public tour which commences at 9:30am.  We will learn about the history of tea, see the plants and even pick a few leaves. We  view a film exclusive to the tour which tells the story of Zealong Tea and explains tea processing.

All five of Zealong’s unique teas can be enjoyed in the following tea tasting experience, with a focus on identifying flavours and qualities through whole leaf styles, colour, aromas, and taste.

We will conclude our visit by enjoying the Zealong High Tea Experience, where all the food items are infused with tea.

The tea tour will take approximately two hours and the High Tea will take approximately 1 1/2 hours.

On our return from Zealong we will make a brief stop at a local artisan food store in nearby Gordonton.  Weather and time permitting, we will also stop at Woodlands Historic Homestead and Garden Estatefor a stroll.

We will return to Auckland by 4:30pm.

This lovely day in the Waikato includes return transportation, the tour and High Tea at Zealong Tea Estate and brief stops at Gordonton and Woodlands Historic Homestead and Garden Estate.
Cost is $175pp.

Numbers are limited and minimum numbers are required to run the tour.
